Part Time Night Porter –Ascot - £19,290
 
The client, a leading boarding school in Berkshire, is currently looking for a smart, proactive and reliable night porter to join their existing facilities management team.  This role is part time, working an average of 140 nights per year.  The working hours are 20:30 until 08:30 which allows for a 30 min handover period with the day staff.  Hot drinks and breakfast are provided free of charge, and you will be given 2x15 minute and 1 30 minute break during your shift.  You will be required to man the phone during your break, and extended breaks will be given if you are interrupted during this time.
 
The role:
 
Your main duties will consist of:
·         Meeting and greeting visitors to the school as well as late returning staff and pupils, and giving them access to the buildings.
·         Conducting internal and external patrols around both the main building and any outbuildings, ensuring all windows and doors are secure.  The school CCTV system is available to assist you with this.
·         Providing a visible security presence around the school premises and ensure the premises are safe and secure during night hours.
·         Man the school reception desk after hours and respond to any incidents promptly and appropriately.
·         Set up tables and chairs if required, and ensure all doors are left open at the end of your shift.
·         Respond to any security and fire alarms, liaising with school staff and outside agencies as appropriate.
·         Ensure fire exits are clear and anything that could compromise fire safety is rectified appropriately.
·         Be on duty during open day/evening to assist the bursar and his team in securing the site.
·         Assist with administrative tasks as appropriate.
·         Conduct Portable Appliance Testing once a year (full training will be given)
·         Write a report at the end of each shift, recording any occurrences.
 
You will need to be proactive, able to work on your own initiative, tactful and able to respond quickly and appropriately to any situation.  You must be willing to undertake any training opportunities offered in order to develop your skills and professional knowledge.  Your honesty and discretion must be above reproach as must your ability to deal with confidential school matters appropriately.  You must also have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. 
 
There is no requirement for an SIA licence for this role, although it would be an advantage.  The successful applicant must be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
