Project Description: United for Care-Sensitive Approaches to Rights and Empowerment (UCARE) is a CAD $9.8 five-year project funded by Global Affairs Canada which will run from April 2024 – March 2029. The project seeks to enhance the well-being of women and adolescent girls in northern Ghana by redistributing and reducing the heavy, unequal and unfair burden of unpaid care and domestic work (UCW) they perform. The project operates within the Canadian Feminist International Assistance Policy and supports the objectives of the Government of Ghana in meeting its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 5.4.
About the Role The Communications and Advocacy Coordinator supports project communications and advocacy activities based on annual workplans. Working closely with the project team, the Communications and Advocacy Coordinator plays an important role in ensuring content, messaging and branding is consistent and well-coordinated across products and deliverables. The UCARE project is data-driven and evidence-based, and this position will play a critical role in ensuring that accurate and updated information is incorporated into all project products and materials and that project messaging is consistently aligned and coordinated across all activities.
Key responsibilities and deliverables - Design and support development of advocacy/awareness raising initiatives and communications strategies
- Coordinate communications and advocacy activities for implementation based on annual work plans
- Liaise with NETRIGHT and member organizations to coordinate implementation of UCARE advocacy activities
- Develop content, tools and materials for project communications and advocacy programming
- Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure communications and advocacy programming and messaging is coordinated and aligned across outcome areas and amongst implementing partners
- Update and post social media content (i.e. Facebook)
- Develop and maintain photo library for use with project promotions, advocacy and communications activities
- Identify and coordinate project promotional events based on annual workplan activities and project needs
- Support the preparation of project reporting, presentation materials and consultant reports/deliverables, adhering to project branding requirements
- Work closely with the GESI Specialist to ensure all messaging and content reflects a gender equality and social inclusion perspective
- Work closely with the project team members to identify and support their promotional and communications needs
- Provide guidance and technical support to the project team regarding promotional, marketing and messaging content
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in communications, Development Studies, Management, psychology or related field
- 5 years of direct work experience in a communications and/or advocacy role in an NGO or development organization
- Proven analytical and research skills
- Familiar with gender equality and social inclusion analysis
- Strong interpersonal, networking and teamwork skills
- Digital proficiency and social media experience
- Excellent writing and content development skills
- Marketing and promotional events coordination a plus
- Strong computer skills i.e. MS Word suite, graphic design software
