This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced General Manager to lead a well-established bowling and community social club located in the heart of Newport. Reporting directly to the Board, you'll oversee all facets of the operation while working closely with members, staff, and stakeholders to ensure the continued success of the club.
This role would suit an experienced club or hospitality professional looking for their next challenge, as well as an established General Manager seeking a rewarding opportunity to maintain their current level of responsibility or transition into a lifestyle-focused leadership role.
About the Role As General Manager, you will take ownership of the club's day-to-day operations while supporting the Board in delivering strategic objectives and future growth initiatives. This is a diverse, hands-on role that requires strong operational leadership, commercial acumen, and a genuine passion for community clubs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading all club operations including bar, gaming, member services, events and facilities
- Managing, mentoring and supporting staff across all departments
- Overseeing cellar operations, stock control and supplier relationships
- Working with external bookkeepers to manage the club's accounts and financial administration
- Attending and reporting at monthly Board meetings
- Ensuring strong corporate governance and compliance across the club
- Driving membership engagement and community participation
- Coordinating marketing initiatives and promotional activities
- Working closely with the Board on future planning, strategic projects and continuous improvement
About You To be successful in this position, you will have:
- Previous leadership experience within a club, hospitality or licensed venue environment
- Strong understanding of gaming, bar and member-focused operations
- Experience with stock control, cellar management and venue administration
- Experience working with financial reporting, budgets and external bookkeeping providers
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a willingness to lead from the front
- A genuine passion for delivering outstanding member and guest experiences
- An understanding of corporate governance and compliance requirements within a club environment
