As a Senior Data Engineer at Swyftx you’ll play a pivotal role in building and optimising the data pipelines and infrastructure that power our analytics and data-driven decision-making. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll help ensure our data is accurate, accessible, and actionable, enabling teams across Swyftx to unlock insights and drive better outcomes. You'll also contribute to best practices, mentor others, and help shape the evolution of our data platform.
Please note this is a Brisbane based role, and we have hybrid working, with two days per week in our beautiful Milton office.
Key Responsibilities: - Design, build, and maintain efficient, scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support analytics, products, and decision-making across the business.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather feedback, translate requirements, and continuously improve Swyftx’s data platform.
- Apply software engineering best practices to deliver clean, trusted datasets from the datalake, warehouse, or lakehouse to end users.
- Ensure data infrastructure is secure, reliable, and high-performing at scale, proactively addressing issues and maintaining system health.
- Champion best practices through code reviews, documentation, mentorship, and by setting high standards for code quality and delivery.
- Own key features or projects, becoming a subject matter expert and driving delivery through to completion.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies, effectively prioritise work, and communicate progress, risks, and timelines to stakeholders.
- Identify and implement improvements to tools, systems, and processes to enhance team productivity and data quality.
- Solve complex technical problems independently and support the broader goals of the Data Engineering function as needed.
To be successful you will have: - Strong programming fundamentals, including object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and writing robust, scalable code.
- Proven experience designing and optimizing modern data pipelines, architectures, and distributed systems using cloud-based technologies.
- Hands-on expertise with data processing frameworks, microservices, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Skilled in communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to identify complex issues and design practical solutions.
- Proactively take responsibility for projects and outcomes.
- Work well in cross-functional teams and be able to influence and lead through expertise.
- Comfortable with change and able to quickly learn and adopt new technologies and tools.
