General Counsel

At Swyftx, we’re not just building a fintech scaleup - we’re redefining the future of Australia’s digital currency industry and its integration with traditional finance. With over 800,000 users and ambitious international expansion plans, we thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment where adaptability and strategic thinking are essential.

As General Counsel, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Swyftx’s next phase of growth, working closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to navigate complex legal landscapes both locally and globally. If you’re a forward-thinking, strategic legal leader who can balance big-picture strategy with meticulous attention to detail, and you’re ready to take your career to the next level with a company that’s thinking globally, then we’d love to have a conversation with you.

While our headquarters is based in Brisbane, we’re open to remote arrangements for interstate candidates. However, we do ask that you spend some time in the office each month to maintain strong collaboration and connection with the team.

Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Shaping company strategy by advising on complex business and operational matters across multiple jurisdictions, products, and partners.
  • Supporting M&A activities, including due diligence, deal structuring, and negotiations, to support Swyftx’s expansion strategy.
  • Ensuring compliance in a fast-moving regulatory environment, keeping Swyftx ahead of evolving laws and policies.
  • Advising on Australian Financial Services Licensing (AFSL), Anti-money laundering (AML/CTF), Credit Lending legislation, Payments legislation and global regulatory frameworks, ensuring seamless legal navigation.
  • Reviewing, negotiating, and drafting complex commercial agreements, including partnerships, vendor contracts, and licensing deals.
  • Enhancing legal processes and operations, driving scalability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
To be successful you will have:
  • Extensive post-qualification experience, ideally from a top-tier law firm or an in-house fintech/financial services role.
  • Strong M&A experience, including leading transactions, structuring deals, and conducting due diligence.
  • Deep understanding of AFSL and financial services regulations, gained through private practice or in-house roles.
  • Exposure to fintech, DeFi, or TradFi, with an ability to navigate both traditional and emerging financial landscapes.
  • Strategic mindset with an ownership mentality, able to manage legal matters end-to-end while knowing when to seek support.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal matters for diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong project management and organisational abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Professional or personal experience with cryptocurrency is beneficial but not essential.
Some of our perks and benefits include:
  • Hybrid working, with two days per week from our beautiful Milton office.
  • Unlimited fee-free trading.
  • Career growth and formal leadership training programs.
  • Social activities, game breaks and recognition awards.
  • An inhouse barista and fully stocked kitchen.
  • Weekly catered lunches on a Wednesday.
At Swyftx, we're not just building a diverse and dynamic environment; we're celebrating it. We value and embrace the unique experiences, qualities, and characteristics that each member of our team brings, and we're committed to cultivating an inclusive workspace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to do their best work.
