Positions now exist for Experienced Pen Riders to join a leading family-owned and operated agricultural company located near Miles QLD on the Western Downs region. As a vertically integrated operation encompassing a 36,000 SCU feedlot that is also backgrounding cattle and farming, the company prides itself on its strong cultural values, sustainable practices and commitment to animal welfare.
 
Reporting to the Feedlot Manager, the successful pen riders can expect to become part of a growing team that loves working with cattle, values their teamwork and who are a forward-thinking family business. Low stress stock handling is an everyday practice and a genuine dedication to career development opportunities and formal training and qualifications are an option. On site, a brand-new full camp drafting arena with a 20-horse stable complex is nearing completion with employees having the option to use this facility at any time.
 
Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Ride pens daily and monitor animal health.
• Administer hospital treatments and perform inductions and drafting.
• Oversee livestock movements and welfare across the site.
• Maintain clear communication with the feed mill, maintenance, office and logistics teams.
• Uphold high standards of QA, biosecurity and safety.

Selection Criteria:

• Previous experience pen riding OR livestock handling.
• Two – Three work horses that are Hendra vaxed (or will be).
• To possess strong horsemanship qualities.
• To be physically fit.
• To have a proactive attitude, be a team player with good communication skills and a general passion for rural life.
• A driver’s licence and reliable personal transport.
• Experience with Elynx, FY3000 and StockAid will be viewed very favourably however is not essential.

Additional Particulars:

• Roster is 10 days on 4 days off.
• Accommodation is provided in furnished 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom shared townhouse in Miles.
• Your experience will be remunerated extremely well and your contribution to the team valued and rewarded.
• 6-month probationary period.
