About: Nestled in the rural Whitsunday region of Queensland, our client’s expansive 60,000 acre cattle station is home to a thriving Droughtmaster breeding and fattening herd. With it’s perfect location near the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and favourable rainfall, successful candidates for this position will experience the best of rural work and living and the spectacular region as a whole.
 
The Role: Reporting to the owner, the couple will demonstrate proactiveness and possess hands on experience in horse and cattle handling having a genuine passion for the livestock industry. Working cattle & horses daily, the couple will be experienced in their field yet remain open to constructive feedback when offered by the owner and take directions well.
 
Responsibilities & Criteria:

• Demonstrate naturally advanced horsemanship abilities, including the ability to work the owner’s young stock horses on cattle regularly.
• Read cattle well & work well alongside the owner & other staff in the yards and when mustering.
• Use low stress stock handling skills within the well-handled, quiet herd.
• Understand that while horse work is a crucial prerequisite of this position, this is a cattle station, and natural instincts related to the herd’s production and overall welfare take precedence.
• Take direction and be open to feedback when it’s offered.
• To have (or be willing to obtain) a HR truck licence.
• A sound mechanical skill set.
• Operate smaller 80HP type tractors through to D6 CAT dozer if and when required.
• Ride a quad bike.

Additional Particulars:

• Horses may be brought along for work however understand that the owner’s young horses must be worked as part of this role (tack can be supplied or bring own).
• Basic furnished 2-bedroom cottage provided.
• As position is for a full-time couple, this role isn’t suitable for a family.
• Outdoor only pets will be considered.
• Working dogs are NOT used on cattle and pig dogs are prohibited.
• Working Holiday Visa Holders are not being considered for this position.
