A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a suitable candidate with experience in cotton irrigation and dryland farming to step into a leadership position located on a property located a short 25 minutes from Goondiwindi. This position has presented as available due to career advancement within an industry-leading agricultural company that specialises in producing rotational crops under both irrigated and dryland conditions. Goondiwindi is nestled in prime Australian farming territory and offers a wonderful rural community that supports the broader southern agricultural sector.
 
About the Role
 
Spanning 3,000 hectares of siphon irrigation this operation successfully cultivates cotton and rotational cereals by employing some of the most advanced agricultural techniques available in Australia. An updated fleet of well-maintained John Deere machinery and implements ensures optimal efficiency across the operation. The Assistant Manager will report directly to the property Manager and will have the chance to elevate their cropping career while instilling a sense of ownership, strong work ethics, reliability, and a commitment to the future in this role. The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter who can work independently, as well as provide leadership within a small yet dynamic team of staff members.
 
Key Responsibilities & Duties
  • To provide a collaborative approach within the management team in order to coordinate and implement an effective crop production plan.
  • To supervise, direct and partake in the growing and maintenance of all facets of the crop production process including ground preparation, planting, fertilising, irrigating, spraying, harvesting and picking and carrying out general farm maintenance.
  • Provision of supervision of a team of staff and the ability to delegate tasks to team members according to seasonal requirements.
  • To operate farm machinery, plant and equipment.
  • To bring a maintenance skill set to the position and provide mechanical support when required.
  • To be mindful of and comply with best farm practices in relation to workplace health and safety requirements.
Selection Criteria:
  • Prior experience working within a hands-on cropping position with previous rotational cropping, dryland and irrigation knowledge.
  • A distinct ability to manage a small team and overall transferrable skill set to contribute to this leadership position by engaging positively and respectfully with others.
  • The ability to meet deadlines by taking a proactive approach to their work, incorporating problem solving skills and have the capacity to handle changing and competing priorities.
  • The ability to work autonomously and when within a team to show motivation and bring a sense of enthusiasm to work.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), computer literacy and strong people management skills.
  • A strong focus on attention to detail.
  • A strong mechanical skill set.
  • Good health and physically capable of undertaking manual work.
  • A current driver’s licence with a truck licence being advantageous.
  • A first aid certificate & chemical accreditation certificate.
