The Surgery Internship:

SASH Sunshine Coast is looking for our next Surgical Intern. You will assist our 2 specialist surgeons and 3 Registrars with diagnosis, surgical treatment, and post-operative care of surgical patients including fracture repairs, TPLOs, skin flaps, spinal surgery, hip replacements, minimally invasive surgeries, along with more advanced surgical procedures. The surgery department is well-resourced with an on-site CT, three surgical theatres and a 24hr emergency and critical care team.

The internship has been structured to prepare you for a residency in small animal surgery, with many SASH interns successfully securing programs locally and abroad. The position is a full-time opportunity, for a 12-month period.


About You:

We are looking for a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic vet with a thirst to learn and expand their knowledge, in a multi-disciplinary hospital. We are looking for someone who wants to be hands-on with cases and patients. You will work extremely closely with the specialists with their cases from admission through to discharge.

Key skills for this role include:

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to liaise with many different stakeholders
• Effective time management and organisational skills
• Value a hospital culture of inclusivity, empathy and teamwork. 
• Have completed a rotating internship or have comparable experience. 
• Current registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of QLD  
• Interest in working towards sitting membership exams
