Position Overview
 
An established insurance building and construction business is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join its Gold Coast team. The role will focus on assessing building damage, developing detailed scopes of work and preparing accurate estimates for residential and commercial insurance building repairs, with responsibility for taking each estimate from initial inspection through to handover to the delivery team.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Attend residential and commercial properties to assess building damage and required repair works.
  • Undertake detailed site inspections and document damage, repair methodology and relevant construction requirements.
  • Prepare accurate and comprehensive scopes of work for insurance building repairs.
  • Produce detailed estimates covering labour, materials, subcontractors and associated construction costs.
  • Review insurer scopes, reports and supporting documentation and identify discrepancies where required.
  • Obtain, analyse and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Determine appropriate construction and repair methodologies from concept through to handover.
  • Prepare variations and supplementary estimates where additional damage or works are identified.
  • Ensure estimates align with insurer requirements, contractual expectations and internal commercial targets.
  • Work closely with Supervisors and delivery teams to ensure a clear and accurate handover into construction.
  • Maintain accurate job notes, site photographs, reports and supporting documentation.
  • Liaise professionally with homeowners, insurers, assessors, loss adjusters, trades and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple estimates and competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
Experience & Capability
  • Proven experience in construction estimating, particularly within insurance building and property repairs.
  • Experience across both residential and commercial building projects.
  • Strong understanding of the construction process from concept through to handover.
  • Strong knowledge of construction pricing, labour, materials, subcontractor costs and repair methodologies.
  • Experience preparing detailed scopes of work and assessing building damage.
  • Ability to interpret plans, engineering reports and technical documentation.
  • Strong commercial awareness and excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written communication and report-writing ability.
  • Experience using construction, estimating or insurance claims software is highly regarded.
Qualifications & Licences
  • Trade qualification in Carpentry or another relevant construction discipline highly regarded.
  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Building and Construction highly regarded.
  • Estimating, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management qualification advantageous.
  • Relevant QBCC licence advantageous.
  • Current Australian driver licence.

  • Confident working autonomously and managing a high-volume workload.
  • Strong communicator who can explain technical building matters clearly.
  • Professional, customer focused and comfortable dealing with multiple stakeholders.
