Design Manager – Major Infrastructure Project (Melbourne)
Lead the design delivery of a landmark infrastructure programme in Melbourne, taking ownership from concept through to approvals and construction-ready documentation.
This is a key role within a major D&C team, working closely with delivery leadership, contractors and technical advisors to ensure design outcomes are compliant, approved, and aligned to programme.
The Role Reporting into the Delivery Director, you will take ownership of the design management function, ensuring all packages move efficiently through review and approval while supporting project timelines.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and manage the end-to-end design process (concept → IFC / construction issue)
- Oversee design packages (temporary & permanent works) through review and approvals
- Interface with contractor design teams and technical advisors
- Chair design management meetings and track progress, risks and key issues
- Manage RFIs, design changes, NCRs and approval workflows
- Engage with key external stakeholders to secure approvals
- Provide reporting on design performance, risks and programme impacts
- Support document control and digital engineering systems (BIM, GIS etc.)
- Assist with completions, defect management and close-out activities
About You - Proven experience in Design Management on major civil / infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of design across:
- Earthworks & geotechnical
- Pavements
- Electrical / lighting / communications systems
- Experience working within full project lifecycle environments (D&C preferred)
- Solid understanding of Australian Standards and regulatory approvals
- Confident working in fast-paced, complex stakeholder environments
- Exposure to digital engineering platforms (BIM, 4D, GIS)
