The opportunity:
Our client is seeking an experienced
Project / Area Manager – Civil to join their delivery team on a major infrastructure project located in regional New South Wales. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring Drive-In Drive-Out (DIDO) travel on a 2:1 roster. You will ideally be based or willing to relocate to Sydney or Canberra.
Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring successful on-site delivery across multiple self-performed civil works packages.
Key responsibilities: - Oversee and manage self-performed civil works, including bulk earthworks, drainage, road construction, and structural works.
- Assess and implement construction methodologies and staging plans, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Work closely with site Supervisors and Superintendents to coordinate and drive progress across a large work area.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a large engineering team (approx. 10–15 engineers), promoting high performance and professional growth.
- Monitor the project program, ensuring critical milestones are met or exceeded.
- Review and evaluate subcontractor contracts, variations, and claims.
- Maintain effective cost control, forecasting, and overall budget management.
- Collaborate with environmental and community teams to meet regulatory and stakeholder requirements.
- Foster strong working relationships with client representatives, local authorities, and internal project stakeholders.
What you need to succeed: - 10+ years’ experience in a similar role supporting large civil infrastructure projects across Australia, with in-depth knowledge of relevant building codes and standards
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing engineering teams on-site
- Strong expertise in large quantities of bulk earthworks, consistently delivering self-performed works to the highest standards of quality, safety, and cost efficiency
- Willingness to be based in Sydney or Canberra, with relocation support available for the right candidate
- A tertiary education in civil engineering, construction management or similar
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills
