Platform Engineer

Great opportunity for a skilled Platform Engineer to support a Queensland Government digital environment, working across a modern microservices and event-driven platform hosted in the cloud. This role focuses on lifecycle patching, automation, reliability and enabling fast, scalable digital delivery.
  
This is an initial contract to 30 June 2026 + view of 2 x 12month extension options.
  
Responsibilities:  
  • Build and maintain deep technical knowledge of platform systems, services and their business usage.
  • Develop high-quality, DevOps-friendly platform components with scalability, fault tolerance and security baked in.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency across the platform.
  • Manage and resolve a range of support issues, prioritising workloads and meeting expected timeframes.
  • Contribute to technical standards, documentation and knowledge assets.
  • Champion cloud best practices and provide hands-on support to uplift capability across the team.
  • Collaborate with QA specialists to ensure appropriate unit, integration and functional testing.
  • Identify, document and manage risks, issues and complex changes in line with ITIL processes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support governance and security standards.
  • Create and maintain reference materials such as network diagrams, work instructions and training resources.
  • Support lifecycle patching activities across tools such as EKS, Trivy, Fluent Bit, kube-bench, Metric Server and NGINX Ingress.
Ideally you will have the following:
  • Hands-on experience with at least one of: Kubernetes, Terraform, Kafka or AWS.
  • Strong understanding of lifecycle patching for microservices platforms.
  • Solid knowledge of cloud security best practices.
  • High-quality documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team.
  • AWS Associate or Professional certifications highly regarded.
  • Experience across both public and private sector environments is desirable.
  
This role will be offered as an initial 12 month contract with long term extension options.
