This role combines principal engineering, technical architecture and people leadership, with a strong focus on building outstanding software and solving complex technology challenges.
 
What We're Looking For:

• Strong technical background, preferably in Java, with a computer science education or equivalent experience
• Proven success leading complex engineering initiatives and collaborating effectively across teams
• Experience building scalable, maintainable and performant web applications within an Agile product environment
• Strong hands-on coding, system design and code review experience across diverse services and platforms
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively across all levels of an organisation
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to simplify and optimise complex processes and evaluate emerging technologies
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability, with a focus on developing high-performing engineering teams
• Strong understanding of code quality, rigorous testing practices and robust security standards
• Experience partnering with product managers to align engineering initiatives with strategic business objectives
• Expertise in application reliability, uptime management, incident response and post-mortem analysis

What You'll Be Doing:

• Taking technical ownership of products and platforms across design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance
• Solving complex technical problems through hands-on coding and providing close technical direction to engineering teams
• Leading system design and making pragmatic architectural decisions across diverse services and platforms
• Providing technical leadership on complex technology issues across the organisation
• Mentoring engineers and contributing to their ongoing technical growth
• Supporting hiring and helping build high-performing, psychologically safe engineering teams
• Partnering with product managers to ensure engineering initiatives support strategic business objectives
• Maintaining high standards of code quality, testing, security, reliability and performance
• Driving continuous improvement through incident response, post-mortem analysis and ongoing optimisation
• Researching and implementing emerging technologies where they can improve engineering outcomes
