Australian organisations are under growing pressure to comply with a significant regulatory obligation that most of them currently have no proper system for managing.
Our client is a well-funded, fast-growing Australian startup building the software to close that gap, right as the category opens up. They've recently closed a funding round and are moving fast to establish themselves as the platform of choice before larger, slower-moving players catch on.
We don't care how many years are on your CV. We care whether you've ever taken something from nothing to real, whether that's a startup, a side project, a research problem, or a competition you refused to lose.
We care that you have the academic rigour and raw problem-solving ability to pick up an unfamiliar stack in a week and be dangerous in it by week two.
And we care that when you're given a vague problem instead of a spec, your instinct is to go build the solution, not wait for someone to hand you one.
If that sounds like you, the tech stack is the easy part. They'll teach you that.
What you'll actually be doing
You won't get pixel-perfect designs and a ticket queue. You'll get a problem, the context on why it matters, and the room to design and ship the solution yourself. That means:
- Building and refining workflow tools across the full stack: frontend UI, backend API, and database schema
- Shipping complete features, tracking tools, evidence and document management, reporting dashboards, end to end
- Fixing what's broken and improving what's slow, driven directly by real customer feedback
- Polishing the details that separate good software from software people actually enjoy using: transitions, loading states, responsive behaviour, accessibility
- Building integrations with third-party systems as the platform grows
The stack (you'll pick it up fast) - Frontend: SvelteKit, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, shadcn-svelte. No Svelte experience required. If you've built in React, Vue, or any modern component framework, you'll be fine, but you need to be genuinely comfortable in TypeScript.
- Backend: Go. You don't need to be a Go expert on day one, but you should be willing to read it, write endpoints in it, and debug it. Any typed backend language (Go, C#, Java, Rust) is a fine starting point.
- Data: Postgres. SQL confidence is valued over ORM familiarity.
- Infrastructure: AWS.
What actually gets you hired here - Evidence of drive, not tenure. A strong academic record (we notice things like university medals, top percentile GPAs, and high ATARs, because they tell us how you handle hard problems under pressure), plus something you've built or shipped off your own initiative.
- Full-stack ownership. You think from database to UI. You consider what happens when the API is slow, when there's no data, when the input is wrong.
- Startup instincts. You've either worked in a small team where you wore multiple hats, or you've founded, co-founded, or seriously attempted to build something of your own. You understand that priorities shift fast and you'd rather move than wait for certainty.
- Genuine ownership mindset. When something is yours, it's yours end to end. You ask questions early, test thoroughly, and follow up after deploy without being asked.
The team
Small, sharp, and fast. They ship multiple times a day and there's no hierarchy of who's allowed to touch what. Find a bug, track it. Have an idea, raise it. Disagree with an approach, say so. This only works because everyone here already has the instinct to take ownership without being told to.
