This team owns the layer that sits between core systems and every downstream engineering team across the organisation. Instead of each product team solving complex integration challenges independently, this platform provides clean, reusable, well-designed services that accelerate delivery across the entire engineering organisation. The work is high-impact, high-visibility, and depended on by teams across the business.
The environment is fully cloud-native, leveraging Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS to deliver high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems at scale. Engineers joining now are shaping the architecture, not inheriting someone else's decisions.
This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering and backend services, owning services end-to-end from design through to production monitoring and incident response. You will contribute to a genuine build agenda with a 3-year roadmap of identified work, including AI-enabled tooling initiatives being built on top of the platform.
You will work closely with senior engineers and product teams to design reusable platform capabilities, modernise legacy services, and drive engineering quality standards across the organisation.
What we are looking for: - Strong Java and Spring Boot experience with a focus on microservices and distributed systems
- Experience designing and owning integration and service layers in a platform or shared services context
- Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, ideally with Kafka or similar messaging systems
- Cloud-native engineering depth across AWS and Kubernetes
- A platform engineering mindset, comfortable building for multiple consumers rather than a single product team
