Senior AI Engineer (Contract) | 12 Months | Sydney

A major organisation is mid-way through a significant AI enablement program and needs someone to help accelerate it.
This is a hands-on AI engineering role sitting within a Platform Engineering team. A greenfield agent product is already in pilot, roughly 50-60% built, and they need someone who can pick it up fast, extend it, and help shape what comes next. The role is genuinely AI-native, not AI-adjacent.

What you'll actually be doing
You'll be prototyping and building AI-driven tooling and automation solutions. Use cases span incident management triage, root cause analysis, code scanning, resilience planning, and broader SRE automation. You'll evaluate AI solutions for accuracy and risk, define metrics and visibility frameworks, and build MCP integrations alongside Claude-powered agentic workflows.
This isn't a governance or advisory role. You'll be writing code, testing AI outputs, integrating with GitHub, and putting things into production.

The stack and environment
The team works with the Anthropic ecosystem (Claude, ADK) but ADK experience isn't a hard requirement. You'll need to be across the broader AI landscape, comfortable assessing tools and recommending approaches as new use cases emerge. Coding experience in Go, Java, or Python is essential.

What they're looking for
7-8 years of development experience with genuine AI engineering exposure. You don't need a production-grade AI deployment on your CV (they know it's rare), but you need to understand what production-grade looks like and be able to build toward it. Multiple solid POCs with thoughtful engineering will be well received.
Speed matters. They need someone who can prototype fast, validate quickly, and move ideas through to delivery. Platform or infrastructure engineering background is a nice to have, not a requirement.

Process
Two stages: a 1-hour technical interview followed by a 30-minute conversation with the hiring manager.
