Business Development Engineer

Engineer first. Sales weapon second. Big territory. Bigger opportunity.

We’ve been working with this client for over 14 years – that’s longer than most salespeople stay in a job. Why? Because they’re the real deal. They build clever tech, treat their people well, and give you the freedom to do what you do best – drive results.

This role is for someone who understands the engineering, loves the chase, and knows how to build trust from the first handshake (or Zoom call). You’ll take ownership of WA, NT, and SA – solving problems, closing deals, and making a name for yourself in the utility power transmission and distribution systems world.

Let’s talk gear and territory; if you know what a Dissolved Gas Analyser does and can hold your own in a room full of electrical engineers, you’re in the right place.

You’ll be working with an epic suite of products, including:
  • Protection relays
  • Substation gateways
  • Cellular routers
  • Power quality equipment
  • Siemens switching and routing solutions
This isn’t just a catalogue sales role. You’ll be consulting, recommending, and engineering solutions across major infrastructure, utilities and industrial projects. With expert technical support based in Melbourne, you’ll be well backed – but this patch is yours to grow.

What you’ll be doing (besides winning deals):
  • Building and maintaining real relationships with technical and commercial decision-makers
  • Uncovering needs and tailoring proposals that make life easier for your clients
  • Preparing quotes, responding to tenders, and making sure the CRM doesn’t gather dust
  • Coordinating with the engineering and support team to ensure delivery is as sharp as your pitch
  • Attending trade shows, customer meetings, and networking events that help you build your brand
  • Bringing back ideas, intel, and insight that keeps the business ahead of the curve
What we’re looking for:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering
  • 3–5 years of engineering experience, with 2–3 years in technical sales
  • Experience or exposure to transmission and distribution networks (Western Power, Horizon, etc.)
  • Someone who’s driven, curious, and up for the autonomy this kind of role offers
  • A confident communicator who can talk tech without putting people to sleep
If you’re reading this thinking “that sounds like me” – don’t sit on it. This isn’t a junior role, and it’s not for someone who needs hand-holding. It’s built for someone who wants to own their territory, back themselves, and be rewarded accordingly.

Why this role? Because you’ll:
  • Step into a territory with serious potential – WA, NT and SA are yours
  • Represent a brand that knows its worth and delivers on its promises
  • Be supported by a company we’ve trusted for 14+ years
  • Work alongside people who understand the tech and respect the sale
  • Have room to grow – professionally, personally, and financially
Not sure if it’s the right fit? Let’s talk it through.
