About the Role Our client is looking for a DevOps engineer to support their client, a large government agency, where you will support and enhance both on-prem and AWS-hosted applications for at least the next three years. Your time will be spent at the client’s East Perth offices and working within WA Government digital, ICT and cyber security policies and controls.
What You’ll Be Doing • Optimise cost and performance of AWS workloads and services.
• Build, improve and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment tooling.
• Stand up new infrastructure and services across Linux-based environments.
• Administer Git workflows and source control.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across multiple technical teams.
• Provide day-to-day support for both on-prem and cloud environments.
Key Outcomes & Measures • Reduced monthly AWS spend with clear tagging and reporting.
• Faster and more reliable releases through hardened CI/CD.
• High platform availability with clear SLAs and runbooks.
• Well-documented environments and handover materials.
• Positive stakeholder feedback on delivery and communication.
About You You thrive in structured, security-conscious environments and can balance hands-on engineering with pragmatic problem solving. You communicate clearly, manage priorities well and work effectively with diverse teams.
Must-Have Skills & Experience: • 5 to 7 years’ experience in software engineering and DevOps, including 2+ years in a dedicated DevOps role.
• Strong Linux administration skills and experience deploying apps on AWS.
• Hands-on CI/CD experience with tools such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Proficiency with Git and source control administration.
• Solid software development background beyond scripting, ideally across Java or .NET.
• Degree in software engineering, computer science or related.
Bonus Points For: • Containerisation and orchestration experience with Docker, Kubernetes, ECS or EKS.
• Database experience across Oracle or PostgreSQL.
• Exposure to WA Government environments, including change and release controls aligned to whole-of-government frameworks.
